So I want to make useful stuff out of their bones, meat, etc. I had some water buffaloes and a yak calf hanging around my fortress and they died of thirst or hunger or something. Summary: Obtain some animals kill and butcher them to obtain bones, (organ-) meat, fat, skull / horns and raw hides the meat can be used immediately, but the hide needs to be tanned into leather, and the fat needs to be processed into tallow finally cook the tallow into a meal (or make soap with it), and craft the bones, skull, horns and leat. For some reason, my dwarves won't butcher any dead animals.
